MEET Dr. Jeffrey W. Chandler
Oral Surgeon in Elmhurst, IL
Jeffrey W. Chandler, DDS, MD
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon | Elmhurst Oral Surgery
Dr. Jeffrey Chandler started Elmhurst Oral Surgery because he believed that patients referred to a specialist should not feel like they’ve been handed off. From your first phone call to your final post-op visit, this practice is built around you feeling informed, comfortable, and cared for — not just treated.
He holds both a DDS and an MD, which is higher level of education in oral surgery and represents his commitment to ongoing learning and to his patients. For Dr. Chandler, that extra training is the reason he can offer deep sedation and general anesthesia safely, manage medically complex patients with confidence, and handle cases in a full hospital setting when that’s what the situation requires.
He has been practicing in Elmhurst for almost two decades, and a significant portion of his patients come through referrals from people who came to him years ago and have not forgotten how well the experience went.

A Little More About Dr. Chandler
Dr. Chandler grew up in Shelby Township, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. He went to the University of Michigan for undergrad, which means he has very strong feelings about college football … and Ohio State. He and his wife, Becky live in Oak Park with their son, daughter, and rescue dog.
Outside of the office, you’re most likely to find him learning Spanish, on a ski slope, or somewhere overseas he’s been wanting to see. He also has a genuine soft spot for independent films — the kind most people have not heard of yet.
What do you love most about your work?
The patients who were most afraid to come in. When someone who has been putting off a procedure for years finally gets through it and realizes it wasn’t what they feared — that’s the part of the job I wouldn’t trade for anything. It happens more than people might expect.
Why oral and maxillofacial surgery?
It sits at the intersection of dentistry and medicine in a way that not many specialties do. I liked that it required both. The MD program was an additional two years during residency, but being able to offer general anesthesia, work in a hospital, and manage patients with complex medical histories makes my practice genuinely different. I wanted to do the whole thing, not half of it.
If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?
Somewhere I haven’t been yet. That’s always the answer. The list keeps growing faster than I can get through it.
Michigan or Michigan State?
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Go Blue. This is not a difficult question. We don’t talk about Ohio State.
Last great movie you watched?
It’s often something most people haven’t heard of. That’s the fun of independent film – discovering something truly new and creative.
